Join filmmaker Alexis Clements for a screening of her film, ALL WE’VE GOT, with a conversation featuring Jen Hitchcock (Book Show LA) to follow, and drinks after at De Buena Planta!

All We’ve Got is a personal exploration of LGBTQ+ women’s communities, cultures, and social justice work through the lens of the physical spaces they create, from bars to bookstores to arts and political hubs. Despite so many narratives of closure, the reality is that many queer women’s spaces not only continue to exist but are thriving. 

In this film we follow a journey through American herstory and resilience, from a lesbian-owned bar in Oklahoma; to the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center in San Antonio, Texas; to the WOW Café Theatre and Lesbian Herstory Archives in New York City; to the national and international Trans Ladies Picnics. The audience will see and hear from those who helped create and maintain these LGBTQ+ spaces and get a deeper understanding of why these places matter. View the film trailer here: allwevegot.org.

Rampart has a steep hill that must be used when street parking near the intersection of Sunset & Rampart. Restroom is not wheelchair accessible.

Participants

Alexis Clements is a writer and filmmaker based in Brooklyn. Her feature-length documentary film, All We’ve Got, which focuses on LGBTQ women’s spaces, has screened around the globe. She recently launched a podcast, The Answer is No, focused on artists sharing stories about challenging the conditions under which they are asked to work. Her play, Unknown, premiered in 2019 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and other plays of hers have been published and produced in both the US and UK. A regular contributor to Hyperallergic, her writing has also appeared in The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Guardian, Bitch Magazine, and American Theatre, among others.

Jen Hitchcock is a queer bookseller, writer and community space builder. She had a brick and mortar queer-centered book shop and creative space from 2013 to 2019 called Book Show. In that span of time she hosted over a thousand events and workshops. She now operates it as a virtual store and multi-faceted traveling show. Jen is currently producing and curating a storytelling event called Queer Spaces at North Figueroa Bookshop in Highland Park. It features queer folks telling stories about their personal experiences in queer spaces. She also co-organizes a queer-centered arts and crafts night called Collage & Cry with artist Rachel Curry.
