Get a glimpse of Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles’ upcoming 45th anniversary celebration with a preview performance featuring the GFBLA Concert Band at the organization’s home, Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) at Lafayette Park. The member-chosen program showcases GFBLA’s rich history and the passion for music that keeps these musicians coming to rehearsal every week. Join in as musicians share their stories between pieces in this hour-long preview celebrating 45 years of harmony!
Doors open at 7:30 PM. Performance begins at 8:00 PM.
Please bring your own picnic gear and outdoor seating. Parking is available on the streets surrounding Lafayette Park. Other attendees can enter the park from the gate on S Lafayette Park Pl, directly across from Rise Kohyang HS. From there, follow the paths around to the backside of the HOLA building. Limited handicap parking is available at HOLA for those with accessibility needs.
Participant Bio
Joseph Vranas (Artistic Director) is a conductor, composer, and music educator living in Los Angeles. He is the Artistic Director for GFBLA and conductor of the GFBLA Concert Band and leads youth orchestras and bands with organizations such as Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), Harmony Project, the Saturday Conservatory of Music, and EduCare. He has been recognized by the Pride Bands Alliance (PBA), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), and the city of Bell, CA for achievements in conducting and music education.
This concert is organized by Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles as part of the 2023 Circa: Queer Histories Festival, presented by One Institute.
